MENTAL DRIVE
SYSTEM

STATE.TRANSITION / 17

The team stopped trying to create drive.

Every attempt to increase motivation produced the same failure.

More stimulation created more awareness of the stimulation itself.

Stronger rhythm pulled attention toward the sound.

More musical change created more anticipation.

More pressure created resistance.

So the team reversed the method.

They began removing.

Less rhythm.

Fewer events.

Longer transitions.

Lower contrast.

Less demand from the sound itself.

The test library shifted toward deep focus music, low-interference study music, and long-form concentration music designed to disappear behind the task.

The result was not motivation.

It was continuity.

Subjects stopped checking the room.

They stopped adjusting their posture.

They stopped looking at the clock.

They stopped reporting the music.

One session ran for 96 minutes.

When it ended, the subject asked why the test had been interrupted.

The system log showed no drop in attention markers during the final 38 minutes.

That was when the team changed the sequence.

Drive was no longer treated as something that had to be produced.

It appeared after enough interference had already disappeared.

CLARITY DOES NOT FOLLOW DRIVE.

DRIVE FOLLOWS CLARITY.

Then Session 17 produced an impossible reading.

The subject completed the assigned task.

The session was marked complete.

At 18:43, the subject stood up.

At 18:44, he left the room.

The door closed.

The workstation remained active.

Twenty-three minutes later, an engineer noticed the terminal.

The session had not returned to baseline.

The display showed:

SUBJECT: ABSENT

DRIVE STATE: ACTIVE

The room was empty.

No wearable sensor was connected.

No subject was present.

The state continued.

A new parameter appeared in the log.

It had not been included in the interface specification.

It had not been defined by the research team.

There was no corresponding field in the source code.

But from that point forward, it appeared in every recovered Session 17 record.

STATE PERSISTENCE

The team never agreed on what it meant.

Some argued that the system had simply failed to close the session.

Others stopped using the room after dark.

DRIVE FOLLOWS CLARITY.
